I liked getting mine from a 30s moving averging in the VO2max test, because that represents a sustainable maximum to some degree. Going out and running some very hard hills will probably get you your max, or a good idea of what it is. It depends on what you read, but in general, the 220-age prediction works only for about 80% of the population. I raced all an out 5K and 10K with my heart rate monitor on, and I think it topped out at 182 I think - that included some uphill segments. Never really kept track of it, but in hard track workouts when I ran with my monitor, it was a rarity for my heart rate to go over 183 or so.Īt 26, I never kept track of my resting rate, but during a VO2max test, I hit about 188 peak, 186 or so for a 30s moving average. Don't know how accurate that was - possible it could have been capturing some doublets or something, but could be legit. Running up hill (like a 1.5 minute hard run), I supposedly hit 212 or 214 or something like that, using my Polar monitor.

I am 28, but haven't had time to run the past year or so, plus had a few injuries catch up to me. So, that gives an idea of how much room your heart rate has to rise during exercise. That is your max heart rate minus your resting heart rate. Think about your heart rate reserve as well. Two days a week of training probably isn't going to do that, but if you have been doing more of that now, you will likely see results at some point. It'll take some time of consistent training for your resting HR to come down significantly. The world class duathlete I knew, with the 28 resting rate, was able to run I just dont know what to think and feel anymore.

I think there is a lot of individual variation. Europe - French/British Relations - I will be travelling to France in July to stay near Epinal in Lorraine. But I almost never ran more than 60 miles per week - if I had run more, or did more intervals, maybe it would have gone down more.

which really didn't drop that much with years of training. I had been a distance runner for 2 years at that time, running no more than 35 miles a week, and got that resting heart rate. My 5M and 10K times are better than the 5K times.

Lots of training later, and it's just the opposite. I think the 16:52 was probably a lot better than the 29:53 or whatever it was.
